The purpose of Certification
The certification process for business consultants has been developed to:
PURPOSE
- Define criteria for levels of knowledge, skills and experience that are appropriate for competent consultants,coaches and mentors.
- Identifying the development practitioners need to become competent business consultants.
- Provide a level of confidence for business owners ,clients and those who use the services of business consultants.
- Ensuring that the highest level of competence is available to business owners by regularly reviewing the competency of business consultants.
- Providing information and source the learning/professional development required to build a pool of qualified business consultants whose competence has been assured.

BENEFITS
- May use the term ‘Certified Professional Business Consultant’ (IABC and RABQSA) to support the marketing of their services.
- Receive assistance to identify areas where development is needed in order to achieve the competence required to become certified.
- Have access to approved programmes of professional development that will maintain and further enhance their competence.
- Receive a Certificate of Competence that is valid for 3 years, with renewal contingent on maintaining their competence and payment of the renewal fee of $350 NZ + GST.
- Have their details and certification lists on the IABC register which is used to match business consultants with individuals and organisations who seek these services.
- May have preferential consideration for assignments funded by national and global organisations e.g. APEC.
