Applying for Certification

Applications must be made on the IABC Registration Form, which is completed and submitted on-line, along with the required  registration fee of $600 NZD+GST.

Additional documentation and case studies will be required to be submitted to support your application.

The IABC will acknowledge receipt of  your application by email.


The response time for evaluation of applications will vary, but is typically 1-3 weeks which allows for communications and re-evaluation.
 

Entry Criteria

Entry criteria to become a certified Professional Consultant require that you:
  • Provide evidence that your chief occupation and have at least
  • 400 hours consulting, facilitation and advisory services to businesses at differing stages of the business life cycle; and
 
from that involvement with  businesses you must be able to:
  • Draw on 10 or more projects/case studies where you have worked with a range of businesses.
  • Provide a list of referees who can be contacted to verify your involvement in each of the 10 projects identified.

Certification Roles

Once each application has been approved and has met the criteria to begin the certification process a facilitator will be assigned to the applicant. The facilitator will contact each applicant consultant and support them through the certification process.

All facilitators are accredited by  RABQSA ( ISO 17024).

The RABQSA facilitator will:

  •  Contact the successful applicant to discuss their application and the steps required to begin certification.
  • Assess the applicant through interviews, video conversations, on-line discussion and feedback.
  • Determine the level of match between the consultant’s competencies and that required by the client.
  • Identify where development is required to meet the level of competence required for certification.
  • Approve certification when the process has been successfully completed and forward the applicants details to RABQSA for verification and listing as a Certified Business Consultant.

The IABC will:

  • Acknowledge receipt of an application by email.
  • Identify and allocate an accredited facilitator to work with the successful applicant.
  • Arrange for the names and details of consultants who have successfully completed the certification process to be included in the IABC on-line Register of Certified Business Consultants.
  • Ensure that an international Certificate of Competence is issued by RABQSA and that the consultant is also listed in the RABQSA Register of Certified Business Consultants.
  • Facilitate peer support and networking opportunities.
  • Advise consultants of approved professional development opportunities.
  • Monitor the duration of certification for each business consultant and advise of the renewal date and process.

Term of Certification

 The IABC Certificate of Competence is valid for 2 years. 

Consultants must re-apply for certification and provide evidence that they have continued a high level of involvement in business consulting and have been active in maintaining and enhancing their competencies.
 
The IABC will evaluate the evidence provided and verify to RABQSA that the Certificate of Competence is to be renewed. A fee of $350 NZ + GST must be paid to commence the renewal process.
 

Certificates

Each Certificate of Competence remains the property of the IABC and must be surrendered when required by the IABC.

 

Code of Practice

Certified Business Consultants will be required to agree and abide by the Code of Practice issued by the IABC.

 

Liability

The IABC shall not be liable for any claims, liabilities, losses, expenses or damages by reason of any claim, proceedings, action, liability or injury arising out of the conduct by any consultant.

The IABC does not hold out any particular Consultant to be an expert.
 

Professional Liability Insurance

As a condition of membership of the IABC Certified Business Consultants are required to maintain an adequate level of professional liability insurance in keeping with their anticipated volume of work and fee income.
