It is a requirement of membership of the Institute of Accredited Business Consultants (New Zealand) Inc and a condition of the use of the terms "NZ Certified Business Consultant (NZ CBC)" and "APEC Certified Business Consultant (APEC CBC)" that members shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and abide by the Institute's Code of Ethics.

This Code requires members to ensure that:
- A Member will accept only assignments for which they have the skills and knowledge.
- Dealings with Clients are professional and consistent with the highest professional standards of facilitation, advice and client care at all times.
- The legitimate interests of the Client are paramount in any recommendations and advice given.
- The Client's best interests are more important than any consideration for personal gain.
- A Member will provide objective and independent advice to all Clients.
- Any conflicts between the Members' own interests and the Client's business are disclosed and that any conflict of interest between different Clients is avoided.
- The confidentiality of the Client's information is protected at all times.

- A Member will not accept commissions, remuneration or any other benefits from a third party in connection with recommendations to a Client without the Client's knowledge and consent.
- A Member will disclose any financial interest in goods or services which form part of such recommendations.
- A Member will ensure that assignments are undertaken in a timely manner, in accordance with the work-plan agreed with the Client.
- A Member will refrain from inviting an employee of a Client to consider alternative employment without prior discussion with the Client.
- In the course of their work, all legislative and legal requirements are met and Clients are informed when the Member becomes aware of any breaches or potential breaches of compliance in the Client's business.
- A Member will ensure that before accepting an assignment, a mutual understanding of the objectives, scope, work-plan and fee arrangements has been established and that any personal, financial or other interests which might influence the conduct of the work have been disclosed.
- Client contracts for services are clear, unambiguous and easily understood.
- Fair Trading and similar legislation is complied with and they do not solicit for Clients in a manner that is misleading.
- Any staff or contractors employed by a Member behave in a manner consistent with this code.
- Cultural values and differences are respected in all professional activities.
- Members do not use the Institute's name, logo or engage in conduct that damages integrity of the Institute or the Business Consulting profession.
