Getting Certified
Each level of certification follows a similar set of steps which are described below.
At all stages, your Facilitator will support and guide you so that you know exactly what is required of you for your level of certification.
If you have any questions, please contact us.
Which pathway should you take to become a certified consultant?
Look at the two Entry Level pathways:
Decide which is better describes your experience and qualifications. Contact IABC if you are unsure which pathway is more suitable for you.
Complete the online Registration Form and submit it along with a photo and your one-off registration fee, which covers the costs associated with the next step in the process.
Register here. Once you have registered, IABC assigns you a Facilitator.
Depending on the entry level pathway, this will include all or some of the following: CV, evidence of education, industry experience, indemnity insurance, case studies and names of referees. Your IABC Facilitator will provide you with advice and support if required.
If you do not meet the entry criteria, your Facilitator will make recommendations for future development to help you meet the criteria so you can re-apply.

Competency assessment involves the assessment of six key core competencies and associated elements.
To assist in your future development your personal attributes, attitude and personality profile will be assessed and following this, there will be a skill examination and assessment.
Notes:
Business Consultants, granted Provisional status, will have their six core competencies assessed before proceeding to leadership and skill development and assessment.
Business Consultants granted Associate status have already had their competencies assessed as part of their entry level assessment and so will proceed to leadership and skill development and evaluation straight away.
APEC/IBIZ (or comparable) students have their prior learning recognised at this stage by IABC in consultation with their tertiary institute, and are advised which competencies, leadership and or skill assessments remain for them to complete.
For those who have registered for the International Business Consultant Programme, note that Leadership Assessment is conducted as part of the entry criteria.
Relevant certificate is issued
Once the assessment is completed and you are assessed as being competent as either a Professional or International Business Consultant you will be issued with your certificate.
You are re-assessed every three years to ensure you maintain the required level of proficiency.
